![]() ![]() If you are in the park, you must exit the west side onto Hwy 12. The facility cannot be accessed by car from Stone Park. Sunday has limited hours from 1:00 PM to 4:30. It's open from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM Tuesday through Saturday. It's a split level building with 14,000 sq ft of space for exhibits, hands on learning, class rooms, and meeting space. Please keep in mind when you are there that donations are helping to restore history, so please give if you can.This nature center has elevated Stone Park as a destination area for everyone. If you are short on time and just wanted to look inside the trains I suppose you could spend less time.This museum is free of charge. I spent hours there, but you don't have to. They are working on adding more, such as a small scale railway that will carry people ( big and small) around the grounds. There is a very large HO model railroad with an incredible system of buildings and mountains that even the non train enthusiasts young and old will enjoy. On the grounds is a passenger car, caboose, dining car with the kitchen and many other things to look at. There is a very impressive steam engine in the round house in addition to another locomotive and a caboose ( I hope I got the correct). There is a short film that will give you the background of what this place was, is, and will be. I was given a wonderful one on one tour by a man who told me he came from a railroad family and his grandfather has been part of the saving and restoration process. Since it isn't the busy time of year for tourism yet, I was lucky enough to be the only one there when I arrived. ![]() Thank goodness for the work of a group of railroad enthusiasts that was able to save this property and repair many of the buildings. The roundhouse is 100 years old this year. I was given some info on this museum by the tourist center and thought it would be interesting. I am in the area for a few months working so I like to check out the local museums and parks. ![]()
